You should look up The Great Leap Forward, and definitely the Cultural Revolution. They were two big things that Mao brought, and they both wreaked havoc on the people. Sooo many were killed, beaten and sent to corrective camps.It's an extremely sad and tragic era in Chinese history, for all those who suffered.
