What is Judo's place in MMA?

Due to the fact there are very few practicing judoka in MMA ( please don't give me a list of them, or occurances when it's used, that's not the question), I've seen very little of judo, compared to BJJ atleast, in a MMA situation. Is this because it's not on BJJ's level of grappling? Or is it underappreciated because of everyone's craze over BJJ? Or is it simply ineffective in MMA?
