What sort of dog should I get for my person living style? Just looking for your opinion (:?

I live in a small(ish) apartment. I am sixteen, pretty mature, I don't leave like all the time, and I am home a lot during the day. Through the week I can be home any time except for two hours in the morning for school. I go out to go on walks or go to the coffee shop, whatever. Point being, my dog would rarely be left alone for longer than 2 hours in a day. I want a small dog. I want a dog that doesn't bark often (like not a big watchdog, you know), shedding doesn't matter, I don't mind the : maintenance level, and the exercise level doesn't matter much either. But really the biggest things are the barking and that it needs to be small. I know it's based on how you train it, and with that in mind I've been wanting a yorkshire terrier. But apparently they are large barkers... but maybe if I trained it properly and didn't leave it alone often it'd be better with that. I just need some advice. And before people say don't adopt from a breeder or something... I will be looking in spca's for a dog first, if not, I will go to these people who I trust and I've known for a while. But not without giving at least eight spca's a chance. (: So any opinions, thank you. (:
